Early-Bird Reception
Wednesday Evening 6/4/08 - Time: 8:00pm
(Many came early and joined us for a fun-filled
evening! There were lots of food and we all had a                 chance to meet and visit with our honored guest stars                 and extra special guests on a more person level. This                 year was very special as we celebrated the 25th                 Anniversary of our Roy Roy Rogers Festival. We                 welcomed back some of the festival's favorite guest                 stars and special guests to help celebrate the occasion.

The 2008 Roy Rogers Festival *Early-Bird Reception*                 proudly featured the many talents of festival regular,
"Col. Bill Sanders". Col. Bill sang with much feeling and
straight from the heart, as he performed each song.

Roy and Dale's son-in-law, "Jon Patterson" (Dodie                 Rogers-Patterson's husband) mesmerized us with his                 musical talents and melodious voice. What a great                 entertainer he is! Jon performs with a band back home                 in Alabama.

The multi-talented and our festival Special Guest                 Entertainers, "KG and the Ranger", from Madison,                 Wisconcin, gave us just a taste of their award-winning                 talents in the Hospitality Center, 'Poolside'.

We all enjoyed the wonderful entertainment while                 getting acquainted with other Roy and Dale fans, and                 rekindled those friendships we established in                 previous years at the annual Roy Rogers Festival.

You missed out if y'all weren't at the 2008 Early-Bird                 Reception and the first evening of the "Roy Rogers
                Festival Family Reunion").

It's never too early to saddle up your "Trigger" or
"Buttermilk" and make plans for the *2009 Roy Rogers           Festival*, June 3-6, 2009, Portsmouth, OH at the Ramada.
          Don't miss the *2009 Early-Bird Reception*!

Movie & TV Stars in Person!
(We had back some of the festival's favorite Stage, Screen
        and Television actresses and actors.

Donna Martell was the ingenue when she acted in Roy and
Dale's movie, "Apache Rose". She's been a guest star at         our Roy Rogers Festival many times over and has captured         the honor of becoming our official Roy Rogers "Festival
        Sweetheart".

William "Bill" Smith has starred in many major films and
performed many stunts in motion pictures and television.
One of his best well-known television roles was Texas
Ranger Joe Riley, on the 60's western series, "Laredo".
Smith is also known as a prolific poet of notoriety.

Dale Berry is one of our Roy Rogers Festival regulars.
One of his most well-known television roles, was that of
Special Agent, Chet Whitcomb, on the television series,
"Walker, Texas Ranger" staring martial artist expert,
Chuck Norris. Dale also has a huge "Texas heart" when
it comes to children and their charities. Dale's charm and
wit has won over many a Roy and Dale fan in previous
        Roy Rogers Festival celebrations.

What can we say about our good friend, Russ McCubbin!
Russ has been a regular at the Roy Rogers Festival for
several years now. Russ is "Family" to many of us that
have attend each year. His generousity to help others is
one trait we all admire. Russ is a fabulous actor and
comedian. Russ was Clint Walker's stunt-double on the
        television series, "Cheyenne"
for the entire series. Russ
has appeared in just about every television show and many
        stage productions during his career).

Autographs and Photos with the Stars
(Many festival fans used the Special 25th Anniversary's
memorable Roy Rogers Festival program and collected         all of the Guest Stars, Special Guests and Entertainers'         autographs. Then they had someone take pictures of         them and their favorite guest stars. It was a very
special souvenir program from the *2008 Roy Rogers         Festival*).

Western Movies On the Big Screen
(We watched Roy & Trigger, Dale, Gabby, Pat Brady,         the Sons of the Pioneers; plus some of your favorite B-
Western Stars on the big screen in the mornings and
        afternoons.

This year we experienced a nice crowd all three days in the
"Movie Room" watching Roy Rogers & Trigger, Dale Evans,
Gene Autry, and other B-Western stars.

Several watched movies that some of our 2008 Roy
Rogers Festival Guest Stars starred or appeared in).

            "Hellfire"

Roy Rogers Boyhood Home Tour:
       "Thursday, June 5, 2008" - 5:30pm
(A loaded bus of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans fans, plus,
many cars following, ventured on a very special tour that's
part of the Scenic Scioto Hertitage Trail, which takes you by
Wesley "Branch" Rickey's boyhood farm. Branch Rickey was
a baseball player, coach, manager, and executive who was
the driving force behind two of the most important changes
in professional baseball in the 20th Century: the
development of the farm system and the end of baseball's
color line. Rickey was named to the baseball Hall of Fame
for his accomplishments. He lived from 1881 to 1965.
Branch Rickey's boyhood farm is only a few miles from the
*King of the Cowboys* boyhood home).

Next, we made a stop at Roy's school, where there are still
photographs of a young "Len Slye" and his classmates
hanging on the walls. Many crowded inside to take photos
and capture memories left behind by the Scioto County
        native.

Our final stop was at the boyhood home of Leonard Slye,
aka, *King of the Cowboys*, Roy Rogers. It had been a very
warm day, and the festival committee provided cool drinks
for everyone who went on the tour. After everyone took
all the photos and video they wanted and cooled off a bit,
Ray White read letters from the state of Ohio's "House of
Representatives" and the "Scioto County Commissioners"
commending the Roy Rogers Festival - Portsmouth, OH on
        their 25th Anniversary.

It takes "a team" of dedicated volunteers and festival
committee members to put together the annual Roy Rogers
Festival for all the fans. LaRue Horsley, festival chairman,
recognized the festival volunteers and committee
members. LaRue extended his appreciation by handing
out special "Declarations of Appreciation"" awards.

This year's tour was extra special for us, as we had the
pleasure and honor of having Roy's daughter Dodie Rogers-
Patterson and her husband Jon with us. It's believed this
was Dodie and Jon's first time visiting where her dad
attended school and his boyhood home).

Collectors & Dealer Memorabilia Room
(Featured a large selection of posters, lobby cards, stills,          comics, films, video tapes, toys, books, magazines, audio          tapes & records, CD's, autographs & etc).

Great Entertainment
(Great singing and musical entertainers performed for the
2008 Roy Rogers Festival. Local super-talents included our
own "Col. Bill Sanders" and "The Ranch Hands". "Jon
Patterson", Dodie Rogers-Patterson's husband and Roy and
Dale's son-in-law joined in with his fabulous musicial
        talents.

International multi-award winners, "KG and the Ranger"
and our "Special Guest Musical Entertaineers", serenaded
us with great western music throughout the festival.

Other area artists and musicians join in for what was called
"the festival to remember", for many years to come!

A real treat this year was the *Special Western Music         Performance*, featuring our Special Guest Entertaineers,
"KG and the Ranger", "Jon Patterson" and "The Ranch
Hands", performing at the "Cadillac Ranch" in nearby
Lucasville, OH, Friday evening, June 6, 2008 at 7:00pm.

Hospitality Center with Great Food
(Great food was in abundance all four nights in the         Hospitality Center . Many volunteers from the Roy Rogers-        Dale Evans Collectors Association and thier friends provided         the delicious food & desserts).

Luncheon with the Stars
         (Friday, June 6, 2008 1:00pm.
A large crowd of western fans joined our Guest Stars
and Special Guests for a leisurely and scrumpious luncheon
together. After a fine meal, many questions were asked
of our Guest Stars & Special Guests this year. We shared
some memorable and lasting moments with some of the
         best people ever!)

RR-DE MB Fans
Saturday, June 7, 2008 8:00am)- This was a new event this
year and it was well attended. Dave Mantor of Indiana held
a meeting for Roy Rogers-Dale Evans Message Board Fans
and any one else who wanted to attend. Ray White was the
Guest Speaker and his topic was on the themes and
different styles various artists used when they recorded
Dale's song "Happy Trails" that she wrote for Roy. Dave
Mantor was excited about how well the event was received.

Costume Contest
Saturday, June 7, 2008 1:00pm)- Western fans came
dressed in costume as their favorite western character          out of the 'Old West' or a live or fictional character out of          'American History'. Prizes were given to the best          character in the two catagories . Guest Stars were judges          for the contest.

Special Western Music Performance
(The "Cadillac Ranch" in nearby Lucasville, hosted the
"Special Western Music Performance", June 6, 2008.

"KG AND THE RANGER", headlined the performance Friday           evening with their smooth western harmonizing and
unique yodeling style. KG played her harmonica and
Ranger Rick even twirled his lariet, right there in the
middle of the dance floor. Together, KG and the Ranger
brought back the sounds of "The Sons of the Pioneers",
Roy Rogers, and other singing cowboy legends of the
          silver screen.

The full house crowd was delighted to the musical talents
of "Jon Patterson". Jon, along with his handsome guitar
made beautiful music together. Jon has his own special
style and performs in a band back home in Alabama.

The performers from The Cadillac Ranch put on a fabulous
show! Some of The Cadillac Ranch stars and entertaineers
were "Beth Harris", lead vocalist; "Mick Gillette", Rhythm
Guitar & vocals; "Mike Johnson", Drums & vocals. They had
this young lad who was 12 years old, named "Bronson
Bush", from Kentucky. What a career he has ahead of him!
He's been performing for several years now and happens
to be a great musican. Roy Rogers Festival fans enjoyed
this young man's talents tremendously! Please check out
          his website at www.bronsonbush.com).

Festival guest star, Donna Martell was caught dancing at the Cadillac Ranch. Joanne Smith-Carvelli was also found having a good ole time on the dance floor. Festival regular, Russ McCubbin even got the chance to sing on the Cadillac Ranch stage.

If you weren't among the humungous crowd of western music fans who had an incredible time, you sure missed a spectactular music experience at the "Cadillac Ranch".

Grand Banquet with the Stars
        (Scioto Room - June 7, 2008 7:00pm.
Western fans came dressed in their best western duds and         shared in an elegant meal with the Guest Stars and Special
Guests. We all enjoyed the companionship of our Roy and
Dale Extended Family Members during the 2008 Roy         Rogers Festival. We had the pleasure of visitin' with alot of
wonderful folks for a few days.

The 'Grand Banquet with the Stars' meal was prepared         and served by the fine folks at Damon's Restaurant,         conveniently located in the Ramada).

************************

The Sons of the Pioneers was a cowboy singing group founded in 1933 by Leonard Slye (better known by his later screen name Roy Rogers), with Tim Spencer and Bob Nolan. They were soon joined by others and became popular into the 1950s.

The six members who made the Sons of the Pioneers famous in the late 1930s with their close-harmonied western style music were elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980.
Their best known hits includes:
Tumbling Tumbleweed & Cool Water.

Tumbling Tumbleweed is considered their 'signature song'.

The group is still in existence today and perform in Branson, MO at the "Sheperd of the Hills" and special events.

(On August 9, 2008, Trail Boss of the "Sons of the Pioneers" for nearly 31 years, Dale Henry Warren went to his final roundup at the age of 83. He took on the reigns as "trail boss" after Lloyd Perryman passed away in 1977. Dale was a member of the western singing group for over 55 years. The western music community and fans all around the world are deeply saddened by this loss.)

You may visit their website at www.sonsofthepioneers.org

Roy Rogers Cocktail

A Roy Rogers is a non-alcoholic cocktail made with cola (such as Coca Cola) and grenadine syrup, garnished with a maraschino cherry and sometimes an orange wedge. In recent years, both this name and the original "Roy Rogers" have given way to the term "grenadini." It is considered an acceptable cocktail drink for children (since there is no alcohol). For this reason, it may also be called a kiddie cocktail or simply a homemade Cherry Coke.

It was named for the cowboy actor and singer Roy Rogers.
