Some of Portsmouth's Finest

Floodwall Murals
In February of 1993, internationally known muralist Robert Dafford came to Portsmouth to meet with the committee. In May 1993, painting began on the longest mural in the project, 20 feet x 160 feet. The mural project was completed in October of 2002 with 2,200 feet of art along the Ohio River. The project has become the largest known work of art by a single artist. The magnificant mural above is that of "The King of the Cowboys". Floodwall Murals

Boneyfiddle District
The Boneyfiddle District has been refurbished to express the intriguing architecture of Portsmouth's past. It is one of our oldest neighborhoods, offering visitors a glimpse of our history in both structure and service. Antique shops and retail outlets embrace the significance of these century old buildings. Whether looking for that special treasure or quaint place to eat, you can relax and enjoy the hospitality of downtown Portsmouth. Historical Boneyfiddle District

Southern Ohio Museum The Southern Ohio Museum located in the heart of downtown Portsmouth, has served as a center for cultural opportunities of all kinds since 1979 when it first opened in renovated headquarters donated by the city's largest bank. The 1917 Beaux Arts building, austerely handsome on its limestone exterior and classically uplifting in the colonnaded interior where ornate grids of ceiling friezes embellish the second floor galleries overlooking the soaring space of the main floor gallery below.
Location: Southern Ohio Museum, 825 Gallia St. Galleries are open from 10 am to 5 pm Tuesday - Friday and from 1pm to 5pm on Saturdays. Admission is $1 for students & children - $2 for adults except on Fridays when it is free.

1810 House
The 1810 House is a historic old farm homestead that clearly represents the courage of pioneers who cleared, settled and cultivated the wild forest near the mighty Ohio River.
Visitors come in close contact with the past, instead of through glass panes and roped-off areas, walking the floors where the home’s residents walked for decades. Eight rooms show the various 19th and early 20th century styles of home furnishings as well as clothing and housewares. The 1810 House includes a number of significant “firsts” including the first Franklin stove in the region and the first vineyard in Ohio from the one in Cincinnati in which cuttings were brought to the Kinney farm.
The museum is open May through November, Saturdays and Sundays, 2 to 4 pm, as well as in December for special Christmas displays and at other times by appointment.

The building is available or meeting space and its features include: Full service Kitchen, Phone Service, Internet.
Seats: approximatey 40 people. Great Tour for motocoach operators! Contact the Convention & Visitors Bureau for more information. TEL: 740.353.1116. Philip Moore Jr. Stone House

Portsmouth Brewery
Portsmouth's first known commercial brewery, the Portsmouth Brewery was established in 1843. The owners have re-opened a micro-brewery and are eager to share the process with their customers. Group tours are welcome and group menu specials are available upon request.
A restaurant called the Brew Pub is also open for lunch from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and dinner until 10:00 pm. Closed on Tuesdays. Catering is available with a meeting space to accommodate as many as 350 people.

Ye Olde Lantern Restaurant
Located downtown Portsmouth, at 601 2nd St. The building is over 130 years old. The Enos Reed Pharmacy was founded in the building during the Civil War, around 1863.

The Wooster Drug Company moved here in 1897. This building also housed the Blade Newspaper in 1898 during the Spanish-American War. The Tribune Newspaper was here sometime later.

The old West End Confectionery was established here (date is questionable) and was well known for its coneys and fountain drinks. The Confectionery remained here in business until about 1982. It was then reopened as The Serving Spoon Restaurant by the previous owners. The name was changed to Ye Olde Lantern in 1989. TEL: 740.353.6638. Ye Olde Lantern Restaurant

The home is now privately owned and not available for inside tours. But there is a Roy Rogers Boyhood Home Historical Marker and a special Stone-Bronze Monument with a picture of Roy and Trigger in front of the house which makes a great scene for pictures and videos.
